Ballamona Association for Mental Health & Abacus

The Ballamona Association for Mental Health (B.A.M.H.) is a Registered Manx Charity and has been in existence since 1966 when it was founded as Ballamona (Hospital) League of Friends.

Originally the Association provided only for patients residing in Ballamona Hospital, however nowadays people experiencing problems, such as dementia, memory loss or any mental health issues, living in the community and residential accommodation are also supported by the Association. Their trustees and members are all volunteers committed to supporting and assisting those in the local community who may not be in a position to buy much needed items.

Annie Sanchez-Talavera, Senior Manager – Change at Abacus, commented: “The work undertaken by B.A.M.H. is incredibly important and we hope our donation will assist them with their projects which we know will go on to help many individuals. The Association has built a strong reputation for supporting many varied and innovative projects that enhance person-centred care and provide comfort, such as the purchase and installation of an inpatient relaxation and calming room, provision of special equipment, household essentials and funding for inpatients and local residents.”

Lorraine Boyd, member of the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee at Abacus, added: “It was a pleasure to present our cheque and more importantly to meet a charity representative at our offices. The B.A.M.H. is a small charity with a big heart and the care and support it provides is brilliant. Furthermore, it was lovely to learn about the variety of work the charity performs and hear how much it enhances and improves the quality of life in our local community.”

“At Abacus, we recognise the importance of giving back to the communities in which we work and live, which is why we are proud to partake in a range of philanthropic efforts which include charitable giving as well as employee involvement and support. We are committed to supporting local charities across our office locations with the aim of helping them raise awareness and giving them the tools to build a brighter future.”
